But this dispute is an indication of deeper concepts besides just the women issues. We are a dysfunctional society and nation. The press is brutal and often unhelpful but protected for a very important reason by the First Amendment, just as my religion and any other or none at all are protected however we may or may not be offended by statements and beliefs we find offensive or just silly. We have to sort through all the ugliness to find what we believe on our own and we have a moral and civic obligation to do so as part of We the People building our more perfect Union finding that common ground where we can all get along.
Hopefully, we will remain moral and civil as we do so. But laws or self-righteous compulsion forcing us to be that way tend to violate those very basic principles of the First Amendment. Hence, freedom sometimes comes at an ugly price. My faith is that hope in We the People will win out in the end. After all:
governments were instituted of God for the benefit of man [and woman]; and ... he holds men [and women] accountable for their acts in relation to them, both in making laws and administering them, for the good and safety of society. D&C 134:1God bless America, and peace to all the Moms.
