We may be a little slow, but we finally saw Harry Potter 7.2 for a family Labor Day activity. Remembering the book, I was looking forward to Harry's "out-of-body" experience at King's Cross Station in between death and return to life. The scene did not disappoint. How glad I am that my wife and I used that extra little hour to take a ride on the tube on our last evening in London! We can now say we have been to heaven - at least the one in Harry's head.

The British love their trains. J.K. Rowling has explained that she had the whole inspiration for her story traveling British Rail. Even the treacly epilogue isn't so annoying given that connection over time from Platform 9 3/4.
It's not a bad allegory for a journey between stages of life - even from life to death and back again. Sometimes it does feel like my life is waiting in a train station. Then I have to remember like Harry that the choice is mine as to where I am going. And just because it's in my head doesn't mean it's not real. Thank you Professor Dumbledore--and Ms. Rowling.
